Originally just called Winterfest, the coolest weekend of the year was brought to Bowling Green, Ohio in 2008. The thought was to get people out of the house in the middle of the winter when cabin fever can set in. It started with the Fire & Ice fundraiser, ice sculptures and carriage rides. After a couple of years the Bowling Green Convention & Visitors Bureau jumped on board to expand the event into the entire weekend. Adding events at the parks, ice arena and the local library. The event continues to evolve with the addition of the Frozen Swamp Tent serving up entertainment, beer and wine. Winterfest BG has become its own non-profit entity a 501-C3 and now sponsors can get a tax credit with their donation. Two long time sponsors of this event are Bowling Green State University and Heritage Corners Healthcare Campus.

In 2016, we added a new logo and name to the event thanks to Dale Smith who won a logo contest renaming the event the Winterfest BG Chillabration.

The Frozen Swamp Tent made its first appearance at Winterfest in 2017. Surrounded by a beautiful ice garden with live ice carving demonstrations, the Frozen Swamp Tent houses a Craft Fair during the day. Once dusk hits, the tent is transformed into a stage for live entertainment. It is complete with snowflakes adorning the walls, snacks, craft beer and wine, and a one-of-a-kind ice bar!
